TOOTH GEM PREPARATION

• Please brush your teeth, floss, and use mouthwash prior to coming to appointment

• Avoid eating highly acidic food/drink (citrus fruits) 12 hours prior to your appointment

 

TOOTH GEM AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Do NOT touch or play with the tooth gem (no picking at it with your finger or tongue).

• Do NOT eat/chew gum for 2 hours.

• Do NOT drink for 1 hour.

• Do NOT smoke for 1 hour.

• Do NOT eat/drink anything highly acidic for 12 hours.

• Do NOT brush your teeth for 12 hours.

• Do NOT brush with charcoal toothpaste.

• Do NOT use an electric toothbrush for 48 hours.

• Be SUPER gentle with gems for 48 hours after service. Only eat soft foods, do NOT eat/bite down on anything hard/crunchy ( hard candy, crunchy pretzels etc) on the same side of gems for 48 hours

• Perform the normal/necessary dental hygiene like brushing your teeth, flossing, and mouthwash to keep plaque from building up around the gem.

CAN I STILL HAVE MY TEETH CLEANED BY MY DENTIST/HYGIENIST?

Yes, you can and should still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Tooth jewelry will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the gemstone with a soft point. The area underneath the jewel is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria.

 

CAN I STILL WEAR MY RETAINER/INVISALIGN?

For a retainer, it depends on the type. If it is a Hawley Retainer (the wire kind), yes! Just bring it to your appointment, and we can ensure the gems' placement doesn't interfere with it. Unfortunately, if you have the clear plastic tray type (which also applies to Invisalign), it will put too much pressure on your tooth and the gem.

 

CAN I FEEL THE JEWEL ON MY TOOTH?

Initially, something on your tooth will feel different, but a few days after the application, you will get used to the new feeling.

 

WILL THE JEWEL HARM MY TOOTH?

No! The jewel will bond to the enamel, like an orthodontic bracket, without any drilling or pain. The procedure and removal is similar to the placement and removal of orthodontic brackets. 

 

CAN VENEERS or FALSE TOOTH, CAN I STILL GET CHARMED?

Unfortunately, the bonding agent will only attach to natural tooth tissue.

 

DOES THE JEWEL IMPEDE BRUSHING?

No, the presence of the tooth jewelry will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric toothbrush.

 

WHAT IF THE JEWEL FALLS OFF AND I SWALLOW IT?

The jewels are tiny glass crystals or gold. They have no sharp edges. It will come out "the natural way" the same as it went inside your body.

 

SHOULD I GET A DENTAL CLEANING BEFORE OR AFTER TEETH WHITENING?

Teeth whitening works best on teeth free of plaque and tartar.
